Meet the founder

Hey! I’m Naomi —

Former skin picker, current acne specialist. 

I was in middle school when my acne started flaring. It was reactive, persistent, the kind you can't stop touching (even though you know better). My mom took me to Walgreens every few weeks to try something new. Eventually I saw a dermatologist — who looked at my skin for two minutes and handed me a prescription.

(Sound familiar?)

I became obsessed with ‘fixing’ my skin, but nothing was sustainable.

Then I went back to Japan.

We’d often go for trips to visit my mom’s family. Every time — within a few weeks of arriving — my inflamed, angry skin would settle.

Was it the water? The air? The food? Everything was cleaner. And the products my grandmother would lend me were simple — a few gentle formulas she'd used for years, nothing overflowing from the shelves. Her skin was always beautiful. Mine started to take notes. 

Gentleness was the answer — and it felt like cracking a code. 

To my family in Japan, it was just how things were.

Diet, sleep, stress, what you put on your face — of course it all shows up on your skin! But growing up in America, it wasn’t framed that way for us. 

I came home, trained as an esthetician, and chose to specialise in acne because I knew how all-encompassing this battle can be. How acne slowly chips away at your confidence until you stop looking people in the eye. 

If you've tried everything, just know: so have I. Which is why I’m so proud of creating something that truly works.

Mikura is a reflection of my own healing —

Eastern philosophy and Western technology.
